An appartment in Paris
Ese espacio personal a modo de atelier que arropó a Le Corbusier y le acompañó durante su última estancia en París a reflexionar, pintar, escribir y dibujar, es hoy uno de esos lugares de culto arquitectónico donde los elementos lecorbusianos se ponen en escena de una manera un tanto especial.
That personal space, like an atelier, which embraced Le Corbusier and accompanied him during his last stay in Paris while reflecting, painting, writing and drawing, is today one of those architectural places where the Le Corbusier elements are put on stage in a rather special way.

El color, a modo de pinceladas aparece en puntos estratégicos de la vivienda. Guía a lo largo de recorrido fluidos, acoge en algunos espacios privados e ilumina en otros más públicos. La paleta: básica, esencial y bien elaborada.
Colour, like brushstrokes, appears in strategic points of the apartment. It guides through fluid routes, embraces some of the private spaces and illuminates the more public ones. The palette: basic, essential and carefully composed.
El rojo, lleno de vitalidad te recibe al llegar a la zona privada: iluminando el salón, vistiendo la chimenea. El azul aparce profundo y elegante, calma y apacigua dando la bienvenida al visitante; algo más intenso y oceánico aparece como respaldo del dormitorio principal, mientras que en un tono cian resguardará los espacios privados. El amarillo, energético y brillante, para los detalles; destaca en ese mueble ingenioso que resguarda el espejo del dormitorio principal. El blanco como base del lienzo que sustenta toda esa gama cromática y el negro para remarcar a modo de brocha y romper tajantemente el impoluto lienzo.
Red, full of vitality, welcomes you when arriving at the private area, illuminating the living room and dressing the fireplace. Blue appears deep and elegant, calming and softening the atmosphere while welcoming the visitor. A more intense and oceanic blue appears as the backdrop of the master bedroom, while in a cyan tone it protects the most private spaces. Yellow, energetic and bright, is left for the details, standing out in that ingenious cabinet which hides the mirror in the master bedroom. White as the base of the canvas supporting the whole chromatic palette and black as the final brushstroke, sharply breaking the immaculate canvas.

Las puertas, de grandes dimensiones, a medida, pivotantes y con una clara función: dividir o abrir el espacio. La principal, compuesta por dos unidades, encierran la entrada para separarlo del estudio y del salon, situados a ambos extremos del acceso. Con dos tonos para cada una de las superficies e invertidos para cada una de las puertas. Un amarillo cálido hacia la entrada y oscuro hacia el estudio, mientras que para el salón el resultado es opuesto. La secundaria, entre el salón y el dormitorio, ingeniosa, metódica, y funcional, integra el armario principal de la pareja.
The doors, oversized, custom-made and pivoting, have one clear purpose: to divide or to open the space. The main one, composed of two large panels, encloses the entrance separating it from the studio and the living room, located at each side of the access. Two different colours appear on each surface, reversed on each door. A warm yellow towards the entrance and a darker tone towards the studio, while for the living room the result is exactly the opposite. The secondary door, located between the living room and the bedroom, ingenious, methodical and functional, incorporates the couple’s main wardrobe.
La luz, cegadora, parisina, a veces de colores; logra colarse desde los dos extremos de la vivienda para bañar su interior gracias a esta innovación del uso de la fachada acristalada en viviendas privadas. Diferentes mecanismos se irán desarrollando para controlar esta avalancha de luz a lo largo de los años por el arquitecto. Las entradas por claraboyas son esenciales y, además de dar paso a una luz tenue y delicada, asoman la vegetación de la terraza-jardín, donde las especies, cuidadosamente seleccionadas y evolucionadas más aleatoriamente con el paso del tiempo, conquistan el espacio.
The dazzling Parisian light, sometimes coloured, manages to enter from both ends of the apartment, flooding the interior thanks to this innovative use of glazed façades in private housing. Different mechanisms were developed over the years by the architect in order to control this overwhelming light. The skylights become essential and, besides allowing a soft and delicate light to enter, they reveal the vegetation of the roof garden, where carefully selected species, later evolving in a more spontaneous way with time, slowly conquer the space.
La distribución, sencilla, lógica e inteligente. Consigue separar cuatro modos de habitar en un mismo apartamento: la vida de la pareja, la de servicio, la de invitados y la de trabajo en su estudio. Y con dos elementos consigue conectarlos: la escalera, escultorica y ligera, une los dos pisos y te lleva hacia la terraza-jardin; a modo de pasadizo secreto, se conecta la cocina y el pequeño apartamento del servicio, exterior a la vivienda, facilitándoles agilidad y privacidad.
The layout, simple, logical and intelligent. It manages to separate four different ways of living inside the same apartment: the couple’s life, the service life, the guests’ life and the working life inside the atelier. And with only two elements it manages to connect them. The staircase, sculptural and light, joins the two floors and leads you towards the roof garden. Like a secret passage, the kitchen connects with the small service apartment, located outside the dwelling, allowing both agility and privacy.
Y por último, su atelier, enmarcado bajo una bóveda de 12 metros de largo, se ha quedado con el paso de los años en silencio, austero y calmado. Alejado de toda la actividad, desorden y color con el que el arquitecto solía arroparlo, pero sosteniendo la misma luz natural que en su dia inundaba el espacio.
And finally, the atelier itself, framed under a twelve-metre-long vault, has remained through the years silent, austere and calm. Far from all the activity, disorder and colour with which the architect used to surround it, but still holding the same natural light that once flooded the space.
